This policy explains how deposits, discounted pricing, and cancellations work for Gettysburg Flight School training and discovery flights. It should be read together with our Pricing page, which reflects our current, most up-to-date rates.
1. Discovery Flights
Our discovery flight discount (20% off, $160 instead of $200) applies to everyone and does not require signing up for further training. This discount runs through the end of August or until we reach full capacity, whichever comes first, and standard pricing applies afterward. If you need to cancel or reschedule a discovery flight, please notify us as far in advance as possible so we can offer the time slot to another student. Flights cancelled by the school due to weather, aircraft availability, or safety concerns will be rescheduled at no additional charge.
2. Lesson Cancellations
Cancellations made more than 24 hours before a scheduled lesson are not billed — you are never charged for a lesson that does not take place. Cancellations due to weather are never billed, regardless of notice.
For cancellations made less than 24 hours in advance, the school may, at its discretion, bill up to 50% of the instructor's reserved time for that lesson. This is not our typical practice — we understand that things come up — and exists to discourage repeated late cancellations that impact instructor scheduling and other students, rather than to penalize occasional, reasonable circumstances.
3. 5K Block Deposits
- A $5,000 deposit locks in the discounted rate described on our Pricing page for both aircraft and instruction time.
- Any unused portion of the deposit is fully refundable after Private Pilot License completion.
- Students on a discounted package must complete at least one flight per calendar year to maintain their discounted rate. Students with no flight activity for 12 months will be reviewed and may be transitioned to Pay As You Go pricing, with any unused balance refunded.
- Early cancellation of a 5K Block removes the discounted rate going forward and applies a $50 administrative fee, deducted from the remaining balance before any refund.
4. Founding Five and Other Promotions
From time to time we offer limited promotional pricing, such as a discount for a limited number of new students. Promotional pricing applies only under the specific terms stated for that promotion (for example, a limited number of lessons or a limited signup window) and reverts to standard pricing once those terms are met, unless the student separately enrolls in a discounted package such as the 5K Block.
5. Grand Slam Package
Refund terms for the Grand Slam package, including any non-refundable components such as included gear, will be provided in writing at the time of purchase and are governed by that written agreement in addition to this policy.
6. How Refunds Are Issued
Approved refunds are issued to the original form of payment where possible, or by another mutually agreed method, and are typically processed within a reasonable time after the refund is approved.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The rates and terms in effect at the time of your enrollment or deposit generally continue to apply to that enrollment, unless we notify you of a change that applies going forward.
